About the Collaborative



 

MISSION

In support of the mission of each member institution, the Houston Medical Center Recycling Collaborative will provide a systematic process to identify opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle material streams and participate in the execution of those initiatives.


VISION

The Houston Medical Center Recycling Collaborative will be a resource for identifying value added initiatives that reduce, reuse and recycle material streams. Through the Collaborative’s involvement and information sharing, continual improvement will be sought to reduce the environmental footprint of the products and services consumed by our members.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Collaborative will:

  • Set the bar and drive the process of identifying material stream reduction, reuse and recycling opportunities for members of the Recycling Collaborative
  • Participate in a hands-on manner in the reduction, reuse and recycling of material streams and share the lessons learned with other members of the Recycling Collaborative and other outside stakeholders
  • Provide support to the Texas Medical Center in areas of identifying, prioritizing and managing materials reduction, reuse and recycling initiatives
  • Seek monetary savings and efficiencies though collaboration
  • Educate the membership and individuals within the community on the values of reducing, reusing and recycling material streams
  • Track recycling performance of the members of the Recycling Collaborative
  • Engage with others on ways and means to reduce the environmental footprint of the products and services consumed in the Houston area and
  • Publicize recycling accomplishments to the community

 

 

 

MEMBERSHIP, STRUCTURE AND OPERATIONS

The Collaborative shall consist of a representative from each institution within the Texas Medical Center and other interested organizations. Attendance shall constitute membership. A majority of the Collaborative shall constitute a quorum. The Collaborative shall designate co-chairpersons and a recording secretary for a tenure not exceeding one calendar year. The Collaborative shall meet the first Wednesday of every month at a location convenient to and agreed upon by the membership. The Collaborative may request others whose advice and counsel are relevant to the issues being considered by the Collaborative. The Collaborative shall prepare and submit an annual report to each institution’s management highlighting the continuing improvement being made to reduce the medical center’s environmental footprint.
